Whether you're into recent blockbusters or classic films, these movie podcasts will keep you entertained until your next trip to the theater.
From the day I started this blog, I knew there would be a few categories of podcasts that I probably wouldn't be able to deliver perfectly.
Movie and film podcasts is one of them. Which is a shame, because one thing I know is that film buffs love themselves a good podcast.
I've just never been a big movie-goer. The number of movies I haven't seen far outweighs the number I have.
I didn't see any of the Star Wars movies until 3 years ago. And it was only through some complicated deal brokered by my husband that I finally watched The Matrix this year (Love you, Keanu).
As I write this, the new "live action" Lion King movie is in theaters, and it's the first movie I've really wanted to see in a while.
Maybe that's because I can share it with my 11 year-old nephew, who seems to be mildly impressed that I can name all of the movie characters and song lyrics.
Still, I'm well aware that although I can quote every line from Dirty Dancing and Speed (see, Keanu?), I am not personally a reliable source for podcasts about movies.
So, how to provide movie podcast recommendations to readers? I went to the source: a team of podcasters who host their own movie review podcast. (Clever, I am.)
The team behind the Now Playing podcast did me a solid and created this list of recommendations. They know their stuff; they practically delivered the names of these shows within 24 hours. Be sure to check out their show, which is at the end of the list.
I'm super excited to (finally) share a list of dependable and entertaining podcasts for all the film buffs out there. Grab your popcorn and enjoy!

The Rewatchables Podcast
Whether they are revisiting bonafide classics or what some may deem guilty pleasures, this series – with a revolving panel of hosts that includes Bill Simmons, Juliet Litman, and Mallory Rubin – does an excellent job of returning you to the exact moment you watched a movie for the first time.
As the title suggests, The Rewatchables pays homage to films you may have forgotten about, but would be worthy of watching on a Friday and Saturday night. For the most part, they’re right about their picks.
Awards Chatter Podcast (by The Hollywood Reporter)
There’s a prestige element to The Hollywood Reporter and that shines through in its Awards Chatter podcast.
Host Scott Feinberg gets the enviable task of sitting down with legends (Tom Hanks, George Clooney) and up-and-comers (Alison Brie, Lucas Hedges) alike for lengthy discussions about their careers. The conversation is not singularly focused on the artist’s current project, and that’s what makes it such an enjoyable listen.
Additionally, Feinberg can teach you a lot about interviewing, from his research techniques to his line of questioning. This show is a must hear.
How Did This Get Made? Podcast
How Did This Get Made? winds up on a lot of Top 10 lists, and rightly so. You have three great comics – June Diane Raphael, Paul Scheer, and Jason Mantzoukas – (plus the occasional special guest), talking about the worst movies you’ve probably forgotten about.
They did a show on Jaws 3 recently, and that movie deserves to be picked apart by every comic and critic in the world. It’s not as serious as some other shows, but sometimes it just feels good to laugh.

Empire Film Podcast
Empire Magazine has long been one of film fandom’s preferred sources for news and discussion, and the Empire Film Podcast delivers those elements multiple times per week.
These are episodes that run well over 90 minutes and in some cases much longer, but that’s what you want when you’re looking for deep conversation about a blockbuster like Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Empire always manages to get its hosts together for “sidebar” conversations that are very topical when released, such as December’s “Is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?” The answer, by the way, is yes, regardless of what Bruce Willis says.

Saturday Night Rewind Podcast
It’s been written recently about how Netflix and other streaming services have killed the random Saturday night cable TV movie experience. Saturday Night Rewind pays homage to that era when you would just come across some scary movie and watch it with your friends.
This podcast comes from the makers of Fright Rags tees, and the crew is made up of girls and guys that you can imagine having befriended in high school or college. It’s very accessible and worth a Saturday night listen.

SlashFilm (/Film) Podcast
Here’s another show that gets universal love from movie fans and industry insiders alike.
SlashFilm does an excellent job peeling back the layers of films, with a very diverse lineup of contributors and hosts. In fact, SlashFilm is one of the better examples of a podcast inviting contributors with unique perspectives, which not only gives these voices exposure, but also allows for a different style of dialogue week in and out.
Now Playing Podcast
Since its 2007 launch as a short-form, off-the-cuff movie review show, Now Playing Podcast has grown to become the flagship program in the Venganza Media Podcasting Network and one of the entertainment industry’s most successful and celebrated listener-supported podcasts.
Now Playing's ability to stand out in a crowded field is largely attributed to its highly-acclaimed and addictive retrospective format, keeping listeners engaged week after week as its panel of critics chronicle decades of hits and misses while maneuvering Hollywood’s hectic release schedule.
